CARTERTON

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS ANNUAL REPORT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual report submitted to the League of Mothers’ meeting held on Thursday disclosed the fact that there were 156 members and that of this number 138 were financial. It was reported that from voluntary donations the league had been able to purchase 255 skeins of wool, and that a further 234 skeins were supplied by the Patriotic Society, from which to date the following woollen articles had been knitted: Mittens. 82 pairs; gloves, 10 pail’s: socks, 16 pairs; scaives, 33, balaclavas, 33; pullovers, 12, making 186 garments in all, while 41 hot water bottle covers, 6 pairs bed. socks. 3 pairs socks, scarves, sponge bags, etc., have been donated to the Red Cross Society. Grateful thanks is expressed to all who donated wool and knitted garments, to those who had worked untiringly as knitters, to Mrs Newbould for taking charge of the teawagon and teapot, Mrs Knox Smith fox the donation of a platform for meetings, the committee members for their loyal and cheerful co-operation, and the managers of St. Andrews Chinch for the use of the hall. THE DAIRY SEASON BUSY. TIME AT FACTORIES. During the past week a large number of dairy cows in the district have come into profit, with the result that the various cheese factories are now very busy. It is expected that there will be a considerable increase m the production of cheese this season. Football Match. A return game between the Wairarapa and Wellington representatives will be played on the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday next, August 3 , when it is expected that the Waira-' rapa team will avenge its defeat by Wellington last Saturday. Considerable interest is already being taken in the match and it is expected that there will be a large attendance. Borough Council. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will be held on Tuesday evening.
