RACING AFFAIRS

CARTERTON CLUB ANNUAL MEETING TODAY. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr W. Howard Booth (president) presided over the annual meeting of the Carterton Racing Club which was held at Carterton this morning. The president referred io the death of Messrs J. 8., Bairstow and A. H. Krahagen. Mr Booth said that the former had been the club's secretary over a period of 36 .years. The president also made mention of the death of Mr J. Steel and Mr Cooper, who is' with the New Zealand military forces and who has been posted as missing. . The secretary was authorised to convey messages of sympathy to the relatives. Apologies for absence wore received from several members. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Fifteen new members were elected, making 38 during’ the year, which was a better total than had been recorded for some years. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr J. G. Oates; president, Mr W. Howard Booth; vicepresidents, Messrs L. H. Smart, and P. Bain; treasurer, Mr Geo. E. Allen: stewards. Messrs W. C. Deller, G. H. Eaton, J. C. Harp, C. Jensen, J. Johnson, R. G. Kemble, E. J. Matson, V. L. Robinson, G. A. Vincent, F. C. Yule, W. H. Steel and 11. J. Brown; auditor, Mr H. M. B. Trapp; non. surgeons, Drs. Palmer, Wells and Berney; hon. veterinary surgeon, Mr S. F. Fletcher. It was resolved that the next annual meeting be held in August, 1942. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr R/ G. Kemble, a life member, for his services to the club. It was stated that Mr Kemble had been a steward since 1890, and that he and Mr W. B. Allen were the only two alive _of those who were foundation members

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr W. Howard Booth for the interest he had taken in the Carterton Racing Club as its president over a long number cf years. Mr Booth suitably returned his thanks. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr A. E. Booth who had come to the assistance of the club by taking up the duties of caretaker of the racecourse.
