OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
MEN ON THE ROADS
‘ (To the Editor.) • Sir, —Through your paper I would like to air my grievance which is this: Why, just now, when every able-bod-ied man is wanted, are there so many young men with bicycles and packs on the roads, cadging from door to door — appearing and asking for food noticeably when the men are away and therefore not able to Question them. In my opinion these men have been called in the ballot and are evading the issue.
These are the. worst kind of C.O’s. we have. They camp in an old house or shed and do the district. Surely the Home Guard could look into these cases, or a quiet talk with the police may alter matters. One knows the old lag who ambles along the same route regularly, and does not object to giving him a bite to eat. but these new young men on bicycles are an entirely different proposition. Thanking you for publishing this. —I am, etc.,
SETTLER. Mauriceville, August 21.
