UNCONVINCING ASSURANCE. OFFERED BY AMBASSADOR IN U.S.A. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) WASHINGTON, August 20. In an effort to allay apprehension in regard to closer collaboration between Vichy and Germany, the French Ambassador. M. Haye, called on Mr Cordell Hull. The Ambassador told the Press there was nothing in Marshal Petain's speech last week to justify the fear that France was preparing to act in any way prejudicial to American interests.
