Despite the recent agreement substantially improving wages and working conditions, tram and bus operators went on strike. Some 750,000 workers in huge defence industries are left without means of transport to thenjobs. The dispute was caused by rivalry between the American Federation of Labour and the Congress of Industrial Organisations.
