COUNTY AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA SOUTH BUSINESS AT TODAY’S MEETING.’ SERIOUS SLIP AT KOKOTAU. (“Times-Age” Special.) Cr. F. Court presided over the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council, held today. There were also present: Crs. D. McGregor, A. McGregor, C. A. Cameron, L. S. Gallon, R. Rayner, E. W. Allen, A. E. Reid, and the County Clerk, Mr E. T. Beaven. The treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand of £3473 Ils 6d.

Accounts amounting to £1348 10s lOd were passed for payment. The report of the Taratahi water-race overseer stated that there was a big slip on Mr H. Booth’s farm at Kokotau, where the race is flumed across a gully. The race was buried for a length of 36 feet and for a depth of six feet. On the recommendation of the overseer, the Council decided to purchase two new pipes 60 feet by six inches, to replace the pipes lent by Messrs Borthwick. It was stated that the cost of the pipes, with couplings and rubber rings, would be £l3 16s 6d, against at least £lB for a wooden flume. To shift the slip would be a costly job.' Mr Robert Bassett, assessor to the County, waited upon the Council regarding certain matters in connection with his duties, and was thanked for his attendance.
