NEON SION USERS

POWER BOARD CONSIDERING REPRESENTATIONS. ARRANGEMENTS OF HOURS WITHIN LIMITS. Consideration was given to written representations by a committee, representing 84 Neon sign users in the district, at a meeting of the Wairarapa Power Board today. It was decided to advise the committee that consumers with “sky” signs would be allowed to arrange their own hours within the limit of 24 hours per week allowed by the board, and in the case of consumers with verandah signs that they should come to an arrangement under which they would keep within the limit of hours. Messrs A. C. Pearce (chairman), F. C. Daniell, H. P. Hugo and W. Howard Booth were appointed a committee to negotiate with the Neon light users’ committee.

It was agreed that the matter of Neon lighting restrictions should be reviewed every month.

Mr Pearce pointed out that the shortage of time switches accentuated the difficulties which the board was required to face. The psychological effecton the public would be bad from the board’s point of view if the blazing night signs were not curtailed in view of the restrictions in force.
