TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

SOCIAL GATHERING. ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME PROVIDED. There was a large attendance at the social gathering held by the Masterton Townswomen's Guild in the Savage Club Rooms last evening, and a very pleasant time was spent. A floral Victory emblem of red camellias made by Mesdames Snowsill and Copp was greatly admired. The members of the Singing Circle sang two part songs. ”O Peaceful Night" and "Curly Headed Baby," under the leadership of Miss D. O’Donnell.

A pianoforte solo was played by Miss Melva Seed and a dance was given by Miss Joan Whittaker?,. A trio. “Ye Banks and Braes" and “Can Ye Sew Cushions," was sung by Mesdames Snowsill. Heyder and Speight, accompanied by Mrs Miller Hope at the piano. Miss D. O’Donnell sang two vocal solos, “I’ll Walk Beside You" and Toscelli’s “Serenata,” the accompaniments being played by Mrs A. L. Bennett. Misses Joan and Heather Douglas rendered two vocal duets, “Aloha, Sunset Land" and “Napoli,” Miss Gwenda Barber being at the piano. The word competition was won by Miss D. O'Donnell.

A song in character, “The Spinning Wheel,’’ was given by Mrs Speight, Mrs E. Jones being at the spinning wheel dressed in crinoline. The accompaniment was played by Mrs Snowsill (piano). Mr S. F. Taylor provided the violin inlei'ncie. Community singing was lead by Miss D. O’Donnell.

Mrs Church gave a short talk on the “Channel Isles’’ which was much appreciated. A one-act play, “A Marriage Has Been Disarranged,’’ was produced by Mrs G. Whittaker, the characters being taken by Mesdames Brown, Barber, Douglas, Downes, Graham, Seed, Pickering and Miss June Wiltshire. Supper was served by the committee members. Mr A. G. Wiltshire acted as M.C. for the dancing. The dance music was supplied by Mrs W. H. Snowsill (piano) and Mr S. F. Taylor (violin), extras being played by Mesdames J. Y. Douglas and Speight-
