MELTING OF COMMITTEE

HEATING SYSTEM.

FORMING OF PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION.

Considerable discussion took place at a meeting of the Masterton West School Committee last night regarding the heating system in the new school building, with a view to bringing about an improvement or correction of the system.

Mr F. Shearer occupied the chair in the absence of the chairman, Mr E. R. Rogers. Mr Alan Graham, who was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Gilbert, was welcomed to the meeting.

The Wellington Education Board wrote regarding the areas around the school to be concreted and otherwise improved and the renovation of desks, etc.

Accounts totalling £42 12s Id were passed. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Smith and Hoar for cartage of paper, and to the Masterton Beautifying Society and Mr Robinson for assistance in planting shrubs, etc. The headmaster, Mr J. P. Farrell, was congratulated on the school winning several football contests. Authority was given to Mr Farrell to expend £3 under the collective buying system. It was stated that the committee intended to hold a working bee in the near future to effect repairs to the asphalt, etc., at the side school. The formation of a parents’ association was discussed, with the idea of taking definite action in the near future. Assistance financially was essential.

The headmaster reported a roll number of 350. Fourteen flowering apples had been planted on Arbor Day. two lorry loads of waste paper had been carted to the depot, the board's architect had made a detailed survey of the grounds, the schools’ medical nurse had visited the school, and the school football teams, he stated, had won the intermediate and junior grades in the seven-a-side tourney at Cartel ton.
