VISCOUNT STONEHAVEN. FORMER GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day. 9.20 a.mJ LONDON. August 10. The death has occurred of V'sxnmt Stonehaven, after a heart attack.
John Lawrence Baird was. the. Ist Viscount of Ury. He married Lady Ethel Keith-Falconer, c d of 10th Earl of Kintore. There were two sons and three daughters. Lord Stonehaven was educated at Eton and Christ. Church. Oxford, and entered the Diplomatic Service; Vienna 1896; Cairo 1898; Abyssinia 1899; Second Secretary, Paris, 1904-6; Buenos Aires 1906-8. He became Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office. 1919-22; Minister of Transport and First Commissioner of Works, 1922-24; GovernorGeneral of Australia, 1925-30; chairman of the Conservative Party organisation, 1931-36.
