T.B. IN WAIRARAPA
PROBLEM TO BE TACKLED. HOSPITAL BOARD DISCUSSION. The incidence of tuberculosis in the Wairarapa was referred to by the Medical Superintendent of Masterton Hospital, Dr T. L. Parr, at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board. Dr Parr said that the appointment of two additional house surgeons would enable the problem to be tackled.
“We seem to have more than our share of T.B. in this district,” said Mr J. F. Thompson. "Would the ; appointment of two additional medical officers arrest the incidence among the Maoris.” he asked.
Dr Parr said that the problem was a“ terrible one. Immediate results would be remote and problematical. In Denmark it was being tackled on an intensive scale, which was not possible in New Zealand owing to inadequate staffing. Mrs S. Fletcher: “How about the Government district nurse?” Dr Parr replied that she was only scratching the surface of the worst cases. The work should be commenced now.
■ The board appointed an additional junior house surgeon.
