SHOW AFFAIRS
WAIRARAPA SOCIETY MEETING AT CARTERTON TODAY. RESULTS OF WELLINGTON CANVASS. (“Times- Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society was held at Carterton today. The president, Mr J. A. McLeod, presided over a good attendance of members. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £423 4s 4d in the Bank of New Zealand, and a predit of £494 Is 8d in the P. 0.5.8., making a total credit of £917 6s. Receipts since last meeting totalled £69 9s Gd. It was decided to invite the Gover-nor-General, Sir Cyril / Newall, and Lady Newall to attend the Show. The acting-Prime Minister, Mr Nash. wrote in reply to the society’s letter of July 30, conveying a request that the Government should consult with the N.Z. Meat Producers' Board on all questions affecting the meat’ industry and should give effect to the Board's recommendations. “May I emphasise,” said. Mr Nash, “that the Government is always willing to give careful consideration to the board’s representations on behalf of the meat industry and is, moreover, in close consultation with the board on all matters affecting the vital interests of producers.”
The secretary, Mr L. H. Smart, reported that Messrs McLeod, J. McGillicuddy, G. W. Hart, A. R. Morrison, A. Clark, G. E. Allen, C. J. Nix, H. J. Brown, W. R. Montgomerie and himself had conducted the usual canvas for funds in Wellington. The sum of £122 19s had been promised and a further amount of £35 19s would probably come to hand, making a total of £l5B 18s, against £157 3s 6d collected last year. The committee was accorded a vote of thanks for its work.
