EXPORT OF MEAT
P. & A. SOCIETY’S DECISION
TIMES v. MEAT BOARD METHODS. “FARMERS NOT IN POSITION TO JUDGE.” (“Times-Age” Special.) The decision that as a body of farmers they were not in a position to judge which was the best method of treating carcases for export, was reached at the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society's meeting at Carterton today, when a letter from Mr S. Timbs was read to members. Mr Timbs submitted his views on the subject, and stated that apparently members were under a misapprehension concerning his method. Part of the information was confidential advice from the Food Ministry, London.'
“There is too much argument all over New Zealand about this matter.” observed Mr A. R. Morrison. He said farmers had to provide the meat required by the Ministry of Food, and supply it as required by the Ministry. As farmers they could not be expected to decide which was the better method of sending the meat. “Mr Timbs apparently thinks that as farmers we can dictate to the Meat Board and the Government,” said Mr J. H. McLeod. “We have no say at all.” “Mr Fraser has said that the Government is doing everything in its power to supply the meat as the Food Ministry wants it. “They can do no more,” stated a member.
It was decided to reply to Mr Timbs, pointing out that as a body of farmers the Society was not in a position to judge which was the best method.
