AIRGRAPH MAILS
SERVICE TO MIDDLE EAST POPULAR APPEAL IN BRITAIN. LETTER FROM QUEEN FIRST PUT THROUGH. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) RUGBY, August 15. Last night the first batch of airgraph letters was photographed (in miniature) ready for preparation for dispatch to the Middle East. The Queen's letter to General Sir C. Auckinleck (Commander-in-Chief in the Middle East) was the first to be put through the special photographing machine.! This was followed by two let-
ters from the Postmaster-General —one , to Captain Oliver Lyttelton and the second to Ahmed ’ Khafhaba Pasha, , Egyptian Minister of Communications. The next airgraph came from the First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr Alexander) who sent greetings to the commander of the Mediterranean Fleet (Admiral Cunningham). Many airgraph letters were received from all parts of London and the Home Counties. Reports from the provinces show the . popularity of the service throughout the country. Large postings are reported from all provincial centres. The airgraphs are being sorted into service units before photographing, to save sorting time at the base in the Middle East.
