WORK IN ARMY CLUB

YOUNG WOMEN TO GO OVERSEAS THIRTY CHOSEN IN DOMINION. MASTERTONIAN INCLUDED IN LIST. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Thirty young unmarried women are to go to the Middle East to help in the New Zealand Forces Club and similar institutions established for the welfare of the New Zealand troops. Arrangements to this effect have been made at the request of Major-General B. C. Freyberg, V.C. It was announced yesterday by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, that a committee of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary was set up to make recommendations, and selections were made from members of the various branches of that organisation and bodies affiliated with it. The women who have been selected have all been medically examined and passed fit. Among those chosen is Miss P. M. Thomas, of Masterton. Miss Thomas is a daughter of Mr G. L. Thomas, of Lett Street. Lansdowne, and has already rendered excellent service in connection with New Zealand’s war effort. At present she is in charge of the dental department at the Women’s War Service Auxiliary Air Force at Rongotai. When residing in Masterton she took a keen interest in the Girl Guides, being one of its most capable officers. She is very popular with her friends.
