Three-Power Conference Anticipated
BRITAIN, THE UNITED STATES AND RUSSIA VIOLENTLY HOSTILE PRESS OUTBURST IN JAPAN LONDON, August 15. President Roosevelt is on his way back to the United States and it is expected that he will disembark tomorrow. Tne whole country is eagerly awaiting his arrival in the hope that he will reveal further details of the Anglo-American discussions when he goes ashore. ' The discussions between President Roosevelt and Mr Churchill about the supply of war material to Russia may be followed by a conference between experts from all three countries—America, Britain and Russia. Mr Cordell Hull, United States Secretary of State, said today that there might soon be an announcement about such a conference. ? American papers state that President Roosevelt and Mr Churchill intend to propose to M. Stalin that British and American officials should go to Moscow. In Washington, it is authoritatively stated that President Roosevelt and Mr Churchill personally drafted a broad strategic programme designed to wipe out Nazi tyranny. The commitments and strategy underlying the eight-point programme are, it is stated, known only to the two leaders, and the full ramifications will not be announced for some time. It is stated that the two leaders met aboard the British battleship Prince of Wales last Saturday and that subsequent meetings were also held aboard that warship and also on the United States cruiser Augusta. A Domei News Agency message from Tokio states that political circles express the opinion that a joint plan is being drawn up by President Roosevelt and Mr Churchill for military action against Japan. The Japanese Press is violently hostile. One paper says the joint statement is a virtual declaration of war on the Axis.
