P. & T. REUNION
GATHERING IN MASTERTON LAST NIGHT SOCIAL EVENING & DANCE. VISITORS FROM WELLINGTON AND ELSEWHERE. There was a large and representative attendance from all parts of the district at the Wairarapa Post and Telegraph Employees’ Association and Officers Guild's annual reunion held in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, last night. The function proved an outstanding success. Included among many apologies for absence were those from Mr Webb, Postmaster-General, and Mr J. G. Young, Director-General. The hall was artistically decorated with streamers and flags under the able supervision of Mr W. L. Butler.
Mr A. A. McDonnell, who presided, extended a hearty welcome to members and visitors. Mr McDonnell said that they were privileged to have present Mr J. Robertson, M.P., and Mrs Robertson, Mr Ben Roberts, M.P., the deputy Mayor, Councillor W. White and Mr G. R. Sykes. There were also present: Messrs J. G. Churchill, senior vice-president; E. G. Harris, vicechairman Wellington section; and L. F. Crocker, service representative on the Superannuation Board and a member of the controlling officers’ central committee. Mr McDonnell congratulated Mr Butler on the splendid decorations.
The following toast list was honoured: “The King;” “The Department” (proposed by Mr White, replied to by Mr M. M. Simpson); “The Association” (Mr G. R. Sykes—Mr J. G. Churchill); “Parliament” (Mr L. F. Crocker—Messrs J. Robertson and Ben Roberts, M’s.P.).
The subsequent proceedings were taken up with dancing. Mr B. Seddon was an efficient M.C., and the music was supplied by Jack Barnes's Orchestra.
