CANADIAN ROCKIES

TRAIL RIDERS ANNUAL TRIP. OTTAWA. .For the past seventeen years, the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies, have conducted annual trail rides in the western national parks. This year the route selected is to Mount Assiniboine approaching by the old trail through White Man’s Pass and Spray Lakes in Banff National Park. Mount Assiniboine, 11.860 feet high, is the loftiest peak in Banff National Park. It was named after the Assiniboine tribe of Indians by Dr. G. M. Dawson, distinguished Canadian geologist, who first saw its glistening cone in 1883 from White Man’s Pass. Mount Assiniboine, because of its shape and the many unsuccessful attempts that have been made to climb to its peak, has earned the name of the Canadian Matterhorn. The first ascent of Mount Assiniboine was made in 1901.
