CONTINUOUS BOMBING
CHUNGKING’S AIR RAID ORDEAL.

The Chungking correspondent of the "New York Times” says a thunderstorm ended the worst ordeal by air bombardment Chungking has ever endured. Japanese raids Have gone on with only short intervals since Friday. Apparently the latest Japanese tactics are to keep Chungking constantly under alarm. The populace had been squeezed in bomb shelters for 22 of the 24 hours. Chungking residents were nearing a state of collapse from fatigue and hunger.
FURTHER DAMAGE
PRESS HOSTEL DESTROYED
(Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) CHUNGKING, August 13.
Japanese air raids have destroyed the Press hostel, rendering most of the foreign correspondents homeless. The damage today is greater than at any time during the last five days, during which the people have spent the greater part of their lime in ail' raid shelters. All clear periods today totalled only 70 minutes.
