NEW ZEALAND V.C.

SERGEANT J. A. WARD HONOURED

ENTERTAINED BY COMRADES.

TRIBUTE TO GROUND CREWS

LONDON, August 13.

The sergeants’ mess of the Seventyfifth (New Zealand) Bomber Squadron entertained Sergeant J. A. Ward, V.C., at a smoke concert.

The New Zealand High Commissioner, Mr Jordan, said: “Sergeant Ward has brought honour on himself, on the squadron, and on the Dominion. We are proud of him for his courage, quickness of thought and action.” Sergeant Ward, responding to a chorus of, “We want Jimmy Ward,” paid a tribute to the ground crews. “Those chaps,” he said, “do as much as we ever do, but there are no Victoria Crosses for them.”
