NAVY LEAGUE

MASTERTON BRANCH. PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Navy League was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs S. R. Gawith presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames P. J. Borthwick, C. Deans, E. C. White, H. K. Mclntosh, C. C. Jackson, S. Fletcher, G. C. Williams. and Miss McLaren. The wool committee reported that 121 garments had been received during the month. One local resident who had joined the Navy was being supplied with comforts. The remainder of the garments were packed after the meeting for transport to Wellington. It was reported that a good supply of 4 ply wool suitable for socks and scarves had come to hand, and a regular supply -was expected. At present no wool suitable for pullovers was available. Pullovers were urgently needed, and it was hoped that the Wellington Navy League would be able to supply the necessary wool in the near future. It was decided to invite every school member of the Navy League to do either knitting or sewing, but preferably knitting, the Navy League to supply all the wool or material. Letters were received from the Navy League War Council, London, expressing thanks for garments forwarded. The committee desire to thank all residents who are helping with the knitting and also those who are donating tinned foods each month. It was reported that three junior members —Misses J. Hosking, D. Thompson and P. Gill, had assisted the Mayoress’s Patriotic Committee to sell Victory V badges, and a vote of thanks was passed to them for their help.
