The legless pilot, Wing Commander Bader, who is reported missing, participated in a fighter sweep over France. Soon after crossing the French coast, he and another ■ pilot dived into a swarm of Messerschmitts, whereupon a fast and furious fight ensued. Wing Commander Bader was absent when the planes returned. It is believed that he baled out and probably was taken prisoner.
