AWARD FOR AIRMAN

DISTINGUISHED FLYING MEDAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Official advice has been received by Air Headquarters, Wellington, that (he Distinguished Flying Medal has been awarded to Sergeant William Jack Scott (next-of-kin, mother, Mrs G. A. Scott, Mangateparu, Morrinsville). The citation accompanying the award states: — “An R.A.F. pilot and Sergeant W. J. Scott, as pilot and air-gunner respectively, have achieved conspicuous success during night fighting operations. One night in April, 1941, a Heinkel 111 was encountered and destroyed, and since then a further three enemy aircraft have been destroyed, of which two were shot down during the same patrol. During these operations both the pilot and sergeant have displayed great skill and determination.”
