COURSING

WAIRARAPA CLUB’S MEETING SPLENDID SPORT AT AKURA ON SATURDAY. JULIUS CAESAR WINS PHYSICK CUP. On Saturday afternoon in beautiful weather and before a large attendance of spectators, coursing of a high i standard was seen during the running of the Physick Cup and Watson Rose Bowl events, held by the Wairarapa Coursing Club. The plumpton was in excellent order for coursing after the | recent rain, the turf being springy and firm. In the warm sunshine, thrilling) and very fast courses were seen to perfection. The excellence of the meeting was due to the strong running of Die hares, for which the intensive training and feeding policy carried out by the committee during the season was responsible. Of a total of 25 courses only one hare failed to reach the escapes. Each hare slipped to a pair of greyhounds ran straight for the escapes and the dogs after travelling at full speed for about 350 yards, overhauled their quarry, but the hares by their cleverness and ability to manoeuvre, put the dogs off their balance, sometimes causing them to collide, reached the escapes and sanctuary. Mr W. Spring's dog, Julius Caesar, which won the Physick Cup, showed both speed and working ability and was the fittest dog on the ground. In his first course he gained possession of the hare and working cleverly away from his opponent, ran out the winner 8/1, after driving the hare to the escapes. The Maiden Stake winner, Ben Lomond, ran consistently through each round and given more age will no doubt prove to be a fast dog. He was fortunate that Messrs Cocke and McGrath's Amir Bey had a harci course previously and was a tired dog for the final. Both stakes were run off promptly. At the conclusion, the president, Mr J. Bradbury, congratulated the winning owners, who suitably replied. Results are:--Watson Rose Bowl. First round: Cooke and McGrath's (Wellington) Amir Bey beat J.
