Wesley and Grey town met at Lansdowne on Saturday and a good fast game was witnessed. Wesley having to play determinedly to defeat the visitors, victory for them only being gained during the closing stages. Play was very even during the opening ten minutes. Greytown were the first to get a chance to score but off-side play spoiled the opportunity. Another attack by Greytown was cleared by Wesley. Again a spell of even play followed, then Wesley attacked, Greytown beingforced to a penalty corner from which Stevenson scored, this being after twenty minutes’ play. From the bully, Greytown attacked and Wesley conceded a penalty corner, Dauber evening the score. Both teams had turns at attacking but no advantage was gained until Stevenson made a fast solo run down the wing and went in to score his second goal. Half time was called shortly after with the score Wesley 2, Grey town 1.
On resuming Wesley attacked and R. Harrington just missed with his shot. From the 25 Wesley went through again but R. Harrington being off-side spoiled the chance. Greytown then attacked and Maister miskicked the ball, and Rees, following in fast, scored. Filer made a long run down the line and centred to his forwards but Strange intercepted and cleared. Wesley soon had Greytown again in difficulties. A shot by A. Harrington missed and another by the same player was deflected over the line by the goalie. Grey town then attacked and Wesley conceded a penalty corner, Dauber scoring from it and putting his side ahead. With only about five minutes to go Wesley looked as if they would be beaten, but a goal each by the Harrington brothers in quick succession gave Wesley the victory with the score 4—3 in their favour.
