ENEMY CONVOY

♦ ATTACKED BY FLEET AIR ARM AT LEAST TWO SHIPS SUNK. OTHERS BADLY DAMAGED. LONDON, August 8. On Wednesday 'aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm attacked an enemy convoy of six vessels, heavily protected by destroyers, Jn the Mediterranean. One merchant ship of 8,000 tons and another of 6,000 tons were 'sunk. These losses were confirmed early next morning, when the R.A.F. attacked the convoy, now reduced to four merchant ships. Another 8,000-ton ship was severely damaged by two heavy bombs and was probabiy sunk and another vessel badly damaged. One of the escorting destroyers did not open fire and it is thought that she also was damaged. Enemy planes on the ground in Sicily, Tripoli Harbour and barracks at Bardia have also been attacked. All the British planes returned safely. SUPPLY VESSEL SUNK. A Netherlands submarine operating with the British Navy has sunk an enemy supply ship in convoy and severely damaged an auxiliary vessel. AXIS SHIPS FOUR TORPEDOED IN EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN. ISTANBUL. August 7. Shipping circles report that four Axis ships, the Albajulia, Balcic, Salzburg and Capomore, have been torpedoed in the eastern Mediterranean. The Albajulia and Balcic were torpedoed at the outlet of the Dardanelles, when they were dashing for an Italian port, and one of them is believed to have been sunk. The Salzburg was also sunk, and the fate of the Capomore is not known.
