SALE AT ADDINGTON SHOW CATTLE DISPOSED OF. NO FANCY PRICES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 6. The Grand National Fat Stock Show, judging in which was held on Tuesday, and the Addington sale today, drew exceptionally heavy entries, show cattle being forward from all parts of Canterbury, Central Otago, and Southland. Those sold at good commercial values, but in no case at fancy figures. The top-priced show steer from Rangiora sold at £29 17s 6d, and others at £2B. The best pen of three sold at £27, and other pens at £26 10s, down to £24. Central Otago steers sold at from £24 5s down, and Southland at £22. The champion heifer from Banks Peninsula sold at £26 10s, other good heifers selling at . up to £l9. The total entry numbered 790 head, with all classes represented. For ordinary commercial cattle there was little change in the market from a week ago. Good beef brought from 42s to 44s a 1001 b., medium to good 39s to 41s, ordinary 36s to 38s 6d.

Store sheep were a small yarding, mostly ewes of good class. The best of the two-tooths to lamb early made 34s 6d, and sound-mouth ewes to 24s 6d. Ordinary sound-mouth ewes made 17s to 20s. About 50 spring lambs were forward, but a proportion were late hoggets. There was a keen sale, and the best of the real spring lambs ranged from 30s to 355, with a few tops to 40s. Average quality sold from 24s to 27s 6d, and hoggets at about the same values.

The fat sheep entry of more than 8000 head, about double the usual size, included a good showing of quality. The entry came from a wide field, including the North Island. The market was. erratic, but generally was about a good Is lower than a week ago, with heavy, tallowy sorts from 2s to ,3s lower. , Best wethers made from 29s to 335, with special pens to 40s. Best ewes made from 24s to 28s, tops to 34s 4d. The porker entry in the fat pig section was reduced .in numbers, and there was a sharp improvement in values of 2s to 4s a head. Prices ranged from £2 Is 6d to £3 9s 6d, the average price per lb. being 8:ld to 9,id. Baconers showed little change, ranging from £3 9s 6d to £4 19s 6d, the average per lb. being Gild to 6jd.

PAHIATUA SALE

SHEEP IN DEMAND. PIGS APPRECIATE IN PRICE. The Associated Auctioneers report on the Pahiatua sale as follows: A moderate yarding of sheep, dairy cattle and pigs were offered ,to a fair attendance of buyers. Sheep were again in keen demand, hoggets in particular attracting buyers at prices above last week’s sale. Dairy stock sold at late rates, while pigs appreciated in price on previous sales. Quotations: Wether hoggets (good), 23s Id, 22s 6d to 21s; medium sorts, 17s 6d. to 16s 9d; aged ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 15s 6d; dairy heifers (good), £lO 10s, £lO to £9 10; medium sorts, £8 5s to £7 12s 6d; late calvers, £G to £5 7s 6d; dairy cows, £9 10s, £9 ss, to £8 10s; backward sorts, £7 10s. £7, to £6 10s. Figs: 335, 32s 6d, 31s to 28s 6d; weaners, 18s to 16s 6d.

SMALL YARDING YESTERDAY.

FAT SHEEP PRICES IMPROVE

The Associated Auctioneers held their weekly sale at Masterton yesterday. A small yarding of fat and store stock came forward, there being a moderate attendance of buyers. In the fat sheep section prices showed _ a marked improvement. The following prices will indicate values: — Fat sheep: Fat ewes (extra prime heavy),- 16s 3d to 16s 7d; fat ewes (heavy), 15s lOd; fat ewes (medium), 14s 2d to 15s; fat ewes (light), 12s lOd to 13s 9d; fat wethers (prime heavy), 27s lOd. Store sheep: Store wethers, 21s 6d; woolly wether hoggets, 17s 7d to 18s: b.f. hoggets, forward, 19s 8d; b.f.. hoggets. small. 14s 6d; empty Corricdale ewes, 3s to 9s.

Dairy cattle: Dairy cows, close to calving, £6, £7, £7 ss, £7 15s, £8 ss, £9 17s 6d. Pigs: Weaners, 235; slips, 24s 6d.
