INVASION THREAT
STRENGTH OF BRITISH DEFENCES VASTLY GREATER THAN A YEAR AGO? BUT NOTHING MUST BE LEFT TO CHANCE. (Received This Day, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 6. Britain’s ground defences were incomparably stronger and her air strength immeasurably greater than a year ago, said Mr Attlee in the House of Commons. “Britain,” he added, “is confident that she will destroy the enemy if he attempts an invasion by sea or air, but nothing must be left to chance. The outstanding fact is that the Germans are fighting on two fronts, which their leaders have always striven to avoid.”
