CALEDONIAN INGLESIDE

MOST SUCCESSFUL GATHERING LAST NIGHT. ITEMS BY'ST ANDREW’S LADIES’ CHOIR. A most successful Ingleside was held last night by the Wairarapa Caledonian Society•in the Masonic Hall. There was a record attendance and the gathering was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The Ingleside was under the control of Mr P. G. Ramsay, vice-president of the society, who had the assistance of all the directors in promoting the enjoyment of the members and guests.

The grand march was marshalled by Mr J. Henderson and the haggis, made by Mrs Dave Bell, was much appreciated and was piped round the hall b.v Pipe-Major Murdo McKenzie, whose piping, also for the Scottish dances, was played up to his usual high standard, both in the reels and Highland schottische.

The president. Mr H. E. Pither, in welcoming the guests of the evening, congratulated the St Andrew’s ladies’ choir, under the baton of Mr William C. Mann, and accompanied by Mrs H. M. Morton, on its most enjoyable rendering of “Afton Water," “The Campbells are Coming" and its final number "Coming Through the Rye.” Mr MacKenzie Douglas, chief of the St Andrew's Society, was unable to be present but an old friend and former president of the Caledonian Society, Mr P. C. McLaren and Mrs McLaren, wore welcomed, also Mr Lendrum, a former secretary now in the Air Force.

Reference was made to the absence of Mr T. S. Arcus, patron of the society, owing to indisposition, also to the excellent music always provided by Mr Jack Barnes and his orchestra. The thanks of the members are due to the directors’ wives who were very energetic in serving an excellent supper to such a large gathering. The next Ingleside is fixed for September' 3 and is being keenly looked forward to.
