RED CROSS

ANNUAL CONFERENCE. OPENED IN WELLINGTON. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The annual conference of the New Zealand Red Cross Society was opened by the Governor-General (Sir C. Newall) today. It was preceded by a parade of V.A.D’s. and members of the Women’s Red Cross Transport Service. Sir Heaton Rhodes presided. Sir C. Newall paid a tribute to the work done by the Red Cross all over the world. This work was doubly important in war time. “We must never forget,” he said, “the possibility of attack on these islands, and in order to withstand it as many people as possible should have some knowledge of the rudiments of first aid. The Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John in the Mother Country have played a large part in producing the magnificent morale of the people.”
