WAR SERVICE
THE CURRENT BALLOT SOME MEN NEEDED AT SHORT' NOTICE. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) i. WELLINGTON, This Day.'"V “A. further 23,825 men were called up v for services overseas with the N.Z.E.F. by ‘Gazette’ today,” the Minister of National Service (Mr Semple) stated today. “This ‘Gazette’ contains the names of all those men at present in the register of Class A of the First Division of the General Reserve (that is, men who have attained the age of 21 but have not attained the age of 41). The following summary shows the number called up in each military area: Auckland, 3,758; Paeroa, 1,374; Whangarei, 931; Hamilton, 1,450; Wellington, 3,253; Wanganui, 1,578; Napier, 1,919; New Plymouth, 1,063; Nelson, 1,447; Christchurch, 3,568; Dunedin, 1,891; Invercargill, 1,593. “Medical examinations will be proceeded with immediately, but whilst it is not likely that the majority will be called up for some months, it is anticipated that some may be required at a comparatively early date. It is advisable therefore that all the men concerned should make arrangements so that they may be available for posting to camp at fairly short notice if required.”
