Always wash new stockings before wearing. It makes them last longer and prevents any injury to the feet from the colouring. Another excellent thing to lengthen the life of new stockings is to dam heels and toes with silk before wearing. Don’t throw away egg shells. Put them into a birdseed bag and drop into the copper when boiling clothes. They will make the clothes beautifully white. Shabby Black Suede Shoes can be renovated by mixing equal quantities of olive oil and black ink and applying with a tooth brush. The surface will dry with a new nap. 'Rubbing with a soft cloth dampened with Hydrogen of Peroxide will remove the most obstinate stains on knife handles. To clean white felt hats and panamas put a couple of tablespoons of powdered magnesia into a saucer, add enough water to make a smooth paste, and scrub well into the hat with a tooth brush. When dry rub off all surplus powder.
