Large Reinforcements Introduced
JAPANESE MENACE TO THAILAND CONTINUES REPORTS OF INTENSIFIED PRESSURE LONDON, August 5. At Singapore rapid preparations are being made to meet any developments in the Far Eastern situation. Large reinforcements of British and Indian troops, including members of the R.A.F,, mechanics and other experts, have arrived in Singapore. Italian guns captured in Libya are contributing to the defence of the Peninsula. Blackout rehearsals on a large scale and other defence measures are being tested. The Royal Netherlands Navy has increased the strength of its personnel and a- number of torpedo-carrying aircraft have been added to the air force, American-built aircraft have given great satisfaction. Reports from the Far East speak of an intensification of Japanese pressure on Thailand. Heavy Japanese bombers are reported to be stationed in Cambodia and other Japanese forces are stated to have left for an unknown destination. Heavy concentrations of Thailand artillery and infantry are reported along the frontier of Indo-China.
