Mr J. Smith, of the staff of the Pongaroa Post Office, has been transferred to Wellington. The Maharajah of Patiala has arrived at Singapore, and is to make a tour of Malaya visiting Indian troops stationed there, a British Official Wireless message reports. Dr Henry William Martindale Kendall died in the district hospital, Waipukurau, last night, at the age of 80 years. As an army doctor he served actively in many corners of the globe. He spent the years of his retirement quietly in Central Hawke’s Bay. He leaves two daughters, Mesdames R. Campbell Begg, Johannesburg, and W. B. Fisher. Waipukurau, and one son, Mr J. L. Kendall, Waipukurau. The death occurred at Glenwood Private Hospital this morning of Mrs Charlotte Dixon, wife of Mr F. W. Dixon, of Renall Street, Masterton. The late Mrs Dixon, who was 49 years of age, had only been ill for a few days. She was born in Hastings, and came to Masterton about thirty years ago, having resided here ever since. She is survived by her husband and one daughter. The interment will be a private one.
