The era of racing prosperity in the Dominion, and particularly in the Auckland Province, is reflected in the decision of the committee of the Auckland Racing Club to increase the stake-money for the next Auckland Cup, on Boxing Day, to £3500. Last year the Cup race had a stake value of £3OOO and was won by the topweight, Beau Vite, from Old Bill. During the post-war boom, in the 1921-22 season the Cup event was valued at £3500, and was won by Mr H. A. Knight’s rank outsider Malaga from Uncle Ned and Insurrection. No other race in New Zealand is worth £3500.
