IN SUPPORT OF BRITISH WAR EFFORT. NOTABLE CONTRIBUTIONS. i (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, August 2. The Chancellor of the Exchequer has conveyed to the Governor of Kenya his appreciation at the eachievement of the people of the East African dependencies in raising £1,000,000 in war savings.
The Duke of Gloucester's Red Cross and St. John Fund has now reached £6.511,592.
The appeal to householders for the surrender of aluminium ware for use in the manufacture of aircraft has spread far beyond Britain. The Ministry of Production has received a gift of 2000 tons of aluminium valued at £15,000 from the people of the Netherlands East Indies. Pots and pans of all descriptions, a'nd even alumnium cups used by rubber planters for containing latex, were gathered together all over the colony at the request of the Dutch authorities in London. Appreciation has been expressed to the Dutch Minister for the Colonies.
