ANCIENT CEREMONIAL
MR FRASER GIVEN FREEDOM OF INVERNESS.
NOW VISITING BIRTHPLACE
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) LONDON. August 3.
The presentation to the New Zealand Premier (Mr Fraser) of the freedom of Inverness included the right of placing a gold ring on the third finger of his left hand, symbolising that he was wedded to the town and its affairs. The Provost performed the freedom ceremony in the largest city theatre, which was crowded.
Mr Fraser, in replying, surveyed New Zealand's progress in the war effort. He also eulogised the fine qualities of the Maoris and the part they were playing. Mr Fraser opened new Y.M.C.A. buildings for the forces. He has gone to his birthplace, Fearn, where he is receiving the town’s freedom.
