SALE AT FEILDING

PRICES VERY FIRM.

SHARP RISE IN MUTTON.

FEILDING, August 1. A very firm market prevailed at Feilding today, the moderate sized entry of good quality stock selling freely at improved prices. Mutton showed a rise of Is 6d to 2s per head, and very few pens were passed in at auction. Best fat wethers went up to 29s Id, while extra prime lambs realised 295. Prime quality ewes sold at 18s lOd. Notwithstanding the fairly large supply, breeding ewes were also in demand, while good ewe hoggets showed a decided rise. First quality hoggets made to 32s 9d, while best lines of wether hoggets were firm at 18s 2d. Best five-year in-lamb ewes changed hands at 21s 6d, while four-year lines I went to 275. Very good four-tooth ewes sold at 37s 6d, and smaller twotooths at 345. There was a good selection of hoggets, and the prices held firm throughout.

The store cattle were not a very attractive selection, but a few head of forward conditioned three-year A.A. bullocks sold at £9, younger. lines made from £5 12s 6d to £6 Is and A.A. cows to £5 9s. Yearling A.A. heifers brought £3 7s fid and best yearling Jersey heifers to £5 18s fid. Fat cattle were in firm inquiry, particularly prime ox. of which there was a good entry. Female beef was quite well finished, cows making to £lO 2s fid and heifers to £9 12s 6d. The quality of dairy stock was patchy, and only top quality lines sold freely. Best heifers made to £9 10s and cows nearing profit to £lO 10s. The market for pigs was keen, with a total clearance of the whole entry. Prices are: — !

Store sheep: Best ewe hoggets, 30s 4d to 32s 9d; good, 26s 2d to 28s; others, 18s lOd to 25s 6d; good wether hoggets, 16s lOd to 18s lOd; second quality, 14s to 15s lOd; small, 9s to 13s 6d; black face hoggets, 14s 4d to 17s 6d; two-tooth ewes, 28s 3d to 34s 4d; fouryear ewes, 275; fr e-year ewes, 15s 7d to 21s 6d; m.a. ewes, 13s; forward wethers, 21s. Store cattle: Yearling heifers, £3 4s to £5 18s 6d; yearling steers, £3 10s; two-year A.A. steers, £5 12s 6d to £6; three-year A.A. steers, £9; yearling A.A. heifers, £3 7s 6d; A.A. cows, £5 9s; works cows, £2 10s to £4. Fat cattle: Prime ox, £lO 12s 6d to £l2 17s 6d; light prime, £7 7s 6d to £9 12s 6d; prime cows and heifers, £8 17s 6d to £lO 2s 6d; light, £7 7s 6d to £8 12s 6d; ex-dairy cows, £4 7s 6d to £6 15s; runners, £4 10s to £5 10s. Dairy cattle: Springing cows, £5 5s to £lO 10s; springing heifers, £6 to £lO. Pigs: Weaners, 10s to 14s 6d; slipes, 23s to 31s; stores, 32s to 42s 6d; porkers, 46s 6d to 48s. CARTERTON SALE HOGGETS IN DEMAND. GOOD VALUES FOR FAT CATTLE. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report: There was a good entry at our Carterton sale yesterday. The sheep entry comprised chiefly good condition hoggets which sold very well. The best springing heifers and cows on drop were in keen demand but late calvers were slightly easier. Fat and store cattle made good values. Pigs sold at late rates. The following are the prices: Fat wethers, 28s: fat b.f. hoggets, 22s to 23s 8d; fat w.f. hoggets, 21s 8d to 245; f.m. ewes r.w. S.D. ram, Us 6d; springing heifers (good), £lO 10s to £l2 6s; backward heifers, £6 5s to £8 2s 6d; cows on drop, £ll to £l4; later calvers, £6 15s to £8 10s; fat cows, £6 10s to £7 6s; fwd condition cows, £4 to £5; store cows, £2 15s to £3; fwd condition heifers, £6 7s; empty dairy heifers. £5: porkers, 35s to £2 8s; slips, 23s to 275; weaners, 18s to 21s 6d.
