SHARPLY REJECTED
GERMAN REQUEST TO MEXICO
FOR PROTEST AGAINST BLACK LIST.
THREATENING TONE RESENTED
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.5 a.m.) MEXICO CITY. August 1. Mexico has rejected the German Government’s request that she protest against President Roosevelt’s black list of pro-Axis firms, thereby providing tangible evidence of her intention of co-operating with the United States.
Mexico told Germany that she regarded the request as not only imperious but threatening, and declared that she would not brook interference from abroad in the formulation of national policies. Mexico particularly took exception to the German assertion that Mexico’s resigned acceptance of Washington's anti-Axis measure would not fail to influence Berlin in renewing commercial relations after the war. President Camacho, in the interest of national unity, issued orders today sharply restricting public demonstrations of political groups, especially the Sinarquistas, which a Government spokesman described as Nazi-Fascist. In a recent demonstration two Sinarquistas were killed and three policemen were wounded. LEGAL DIFFICULTIES
RAISED IN ARGENTINA.
HOLE IN BLACK LIST DAM
(Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) BUENOS AIRES. August 1
Authoritative diplomatic sources said today that, owing to legal difficulties. Argentina intends to withhold supoort of the United States black list, thus creating an awkward hole in the economic dam that Washington is striving to erect, to prevent the flow of money and materials to the Axis Powers. The Associated Press of America says there are more of the listed firms in Argentina than in any other part of America.
