MEETING OF MASTERTON LEAGUE

COMFORTS FOR HOSPITAL.

ASSISTANCE TO A.N.A. CLUB.

The monthly meeting of the Women's National Welfare League was held at the Hotel Midland yesterday. Those present were: Miss Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames T. F. Watson, G. H. Collie, S. L. P. Free, J. B. Carruthers, FI. P. Harrison, F. Reynolds, S. J. Munn, L. Hunter, A. W. McKenzie, A. Henderson, S. N. Kilgour, Misses Guild, Boddington and M. Cameron. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames W. Andrew, S. Fletcher, R. C. Drummond, H. E. Pither and Miss Bellis. A letter was received from the A.N.A. Club (Wellington) thanking the League for a hamper sent in July.

The remits from the combined women’s organisations dealing with social problems were received and would be considered at a future meeting.

Miss Cameron reported that two visits had been paid to the Public Hospital during July. Cakes, flowers and literature were distributed and- the usual teas provided to inmates of No'. 6 Ward. Knitting books were wanted for the women's ward. Anyone with these to spare was asked to leave them at Page's shop. Visitors for August are Mrs L. Hunter and Misses M. Cameron and Kummer.

It was decided to visit Buchanan Home in December, the exact date to be fixed at the next meeting. Mrs Carruthers reported arranging and packing a hamper for the A.N.A. Club. Several members offered contributions for this month’s hamper of cakes, jams and sauces. Mrs Drummond wrote about a visit she had paid to the club while in Wellington and emphasized the excellent work that was being done.

Mrs McKenzie reported on social welfare work, cases having been assisted with clothing, bedding, fish, etc. Jerseys, skirts and underclothing for three small girls were urgently needed. The league expressed its thanks for donations of clothing from Mesdames Mills and Burr.

Many league members helped at the Red Cross shop day yesterday.
