TWENTY-FIRST BIRTHDAY

MISS V. HILL HONOURED. GATHERING AT BUSH GULLY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Bush Gully, Hinakura, was the scene of a very enjoyable function last Saturday evening, when Mr and Mrs W. Hill entertained nearly 100 guests in honour of the 21st birthday of their daughter Verna. The large drawingroom, where the guests were received, had been cleared for the occasion and was decorated in an unusual manner, wide red, white and blue streamers running through 6 red, white and blue hoops, which were attached high on the wall. Balloons of the same shades completed a very attractive setting for 1 the plays, games and competitions.

Mrs Hill wore a model frock of oasis green with gold lace inset. Miss V. Hill wore a charming frock of ivory stiffened net with diamante trimmings over satin. Her sister, Mrs G. B. Green, was attired in a frock of mauve self-embossed taffeta with violet shoulder spray. The music was supplied by Misses J. and B. Grant, and extras were played by Mrs Green, Mrs McMillan and Mr McMillan. Vocal items were rendered by Mrs T. Boyd. The treasure hunt was won by Miss J. Grant, and the lucky number at the supper table by Mr C. Todd. A dainty sit-down supper was later served in the living-room, where several toasts were honoured. The room and tables were prettily decorated in pink and silver, the beautiful square birthday cake being iced in the same colourings, with a large silver horseshoe on top. Immediately behind the cake on the wall was a large silver V which attracted much attention. After supper a golden key was autographed by all present and presented to Miss Hill, who was the recipient of many beautiful gifts and several cheques. A very pleasant gathering was brought to a close by the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
