SIR EMSLEY CARR. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, July 31. The death has occurred of Sir Emsley Carr, 'a well-known newspaper proprietor. He was chairman and editor of the “News of the World.”

Gifts ranging from whole fighter squadrons presented by princes, and ambulances by townships to humble annas and pounds of rice offered by peasants or workers, have reached Britain direct, while in India itself nearly 15,000,000 dollars have been subscribed to funds inaugurated by the Viceroy alone, and more than 180,000,000 dollars has been invested in all-India Defence Loans. India has so far sent 7,500,000 dollars to London for the purchase of war planes for the R.A.F., and in addition over 750,000 dollars have been sent to London for the relief of air raid victims.
