Further offensive operations by British fighters over the channel and coast of France are reported in today’s Air Ministry communique. In a daylight sweep today, two enemy fighters were destroyed and two British machines are missing, with one pilot safe. A few enemy aircraft appeared over the British coast today, but none flew inland. In daylight yesterday, . Blenheim bombers made a daring low-level attack on an enemy convoy in the Heligoland Bight. They came down to within a few feet of the muzzles of the anti-air-craft guns, and one plane returned with the ship’s radio aerial wound round one of its wheels. A ship of 1200 tons was sunk, another of 1500 tons was left sinking, and direct hits were obtained on two large cargo vessels. Seven of our aircraft are missing from these daylight operations. Considerable damage was caused to industrial areas in Aachen and Cologne, and on the docks of Boulogne, in last night’s attacks by the R.A.F. These night operations cost three machines.
