PETROL ALLOCATION
REDUCTION OF 25 PER CENT. FOR NEXT TWO MONTHS. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A reduction of 25 per cent has been made in the petrol allocation for the next two months. The Minister of Supply. Mr Sullivan, announced yesterday that in view of the present international situation the Government was reluctantly compelled to reduce New Zealand's consumption of oil fuel. For the two months private motorists would be allowed three coupons, numbered 5, 6. and 7. He said that instructions had also been issued for a review of all petrol licences with a view to making a considerable reduction in consumption. “Though I am not at liberty to give full reasons for the action beingtaken,” said the Minister, “the people of New Zealand may rest assured that the Government has considered all possible alternatives but has no option but to take the action mentioned. “I would ask all consumers of oil fuel to accept these reductions in the knowledge that by doing so they are materially helping not only New Zealand but the whole Empire's war effort.”
