MUNICIPAL HALL THRONGED WITH DANCERS PRESENTATION OF DEBUTANTES. FUNCTION AN UNQUALIFIED '• SUCCESS. The "Wairarapa Charity Bal’, Hold in the Municipal - Hall, Masterton, last night under the auspices of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, was an unqualified success. Dancers were present from all parts of the Wairarapa and included in the large attendance which thronged the hall were visitors from Christchurch and Gisborne. Huge flags struck a patriotic note in the hall decorations. The stage was set out as a lounge. The music was provided by Pool’s Blue River Dance Band and Jack Barnes’s Orchestra. Under the efficient supervision of the M’s.C., Messrs J. J. Hunter, B. Iveson and W. C. 'Orange, the proceedings went with a swing. A brief but impressive ceremony took place promptly at 8.45 o’clock when a fanfare of trumpets announced the arrival of his Grace, Archbishop O’Shea and the official party. After the official party had been seated on the stage nine debutantes, accompanied by their escorts walked gracefully down the hall to the stage where each young lady left her escort and was presented to Archbishop O’Shea. As each debutante was announced she was greeted with bursts of applause. Archbishop O'Shea spoke briefly. He congratulated the debutantes on having made their entry into adult society and stressed the importance which devolved on the youth of today in future world reconstruction. His Grace warmly congratulated all responsible for the organisation of the function and commended them on their efforts. Following the debutantes waltz all present tdok the floor. The debutantes were: Miss Patricia McArleytsilk georgette over taffeta with lace bolero); Miss Margaret Jameson (silk velvet with lace applique and lace bonnet); Miss Joyce Hodgins.
