ADDINGTON PRICES SLIGHTLY EASIER. BIG YARDING OF FAT CATTLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 30. At the Addington market today heavier entries were forward, those of fat cattle, 770 head, being practically a record. Values generally eased for store sheep. Most of the 3000 odd forward were ewes, which were about a shilling a head cheaper. Two-tooth Romneys made to 31s, best local soundmouth ewes, due to lamb early to 26s 6d, three-quarter-bred ewe lambs to 22s 9d. The fat sheep entry was larger than for some time, being 5250 head, drawn from widely scattered sources, including the east coast of the North Island. There was an average decline in values, of Is a head. Top price for wethers 'was 375, and for ewes 30s. Good, prime wethers ranged from 28s to 325, and prime ewes from 23s to 265. Fat cattle of excellent quality were included in the overflow entry, and some lines averaged from £lB 10s to £2O ss. The market, however, because of over-supply, lost last week’s advance of 20s to 25s a head. Good steers ranged from £l7 to £l9, tops to £23, good average from £l4 10s to £l6 10s. Specially good heifers made from £l3 to £l6, good prime beef made from 41s 6d to 44s per 1001 b, tops to 455, medium to good 38s 6d to 41s, and ordinary from 35s to 38s. Fat pigs: Plain porkers were down by 2s to 3s a head, and baconers were slightly easier. Porkers made £1 17s 6d to £3 Is 6d, to average, per lb. 7ijd to 8 ; ?d, baconers £3 Is 6d to £4 18s 6d to average per lb, 6!Jd to 7’d. PAHIATUA SALE The Associated Auctioneers report on the Pahiatua sale as follows: —A good entry of sheep comprising' mostly in-lamb ewes, and a large entry of dairy heifers, and cows were offered to a good attendance of the public. The sheep yarded comprised choice ewes which were successfully sold under the hammer, while hoggets still sold particularly well at above recent market rates. Dairy stock showing quality sold readily while backward sorts appeared good holding. Quotations: —Ewes, r.w. Romney rams (good), 30s to 26s 9d; 4-yr. ewes, 27s 7d to 26s 3d; 5-yr. ewes, 245; wether hoggets (good), 20s 7d to 17s 6d; medium, 16s 6d to 16s; b.f. hoggets, 16s 6d to 14s 9d; ewe hoggets (small), 17s 3d, 16s to 15s 9d; aged ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 17s 2d, 17s to 15s 8d; empty ewes, 9s to 6s; fat .wethers, 24s 9d, 24s to 235. Dairy heifers (choice), £l2 ss, £lO 10s to £9 10s; later calvers, £8 10s, £8 5s to £7 10s; dairy cows, £lO, £9 10s to £8; weaner Jersey heifers (medium), £4 10s to £3 15s; small, £2 18s. Pigs: Slips, 255; breeding sows, £4 10s to £2 10s. MASTERTON SALE The Associated Auctioneers report on their weekly Mastertoil sale held yesterday as follows: —A moderate yarding of fat and store sheep was offered and met with keen competition from a fair attendance of buyers, late rates for all classes being well maintained. In the cattle section beef cows both dairy and station bred were in strong demand. A fair yarding of springing cows and heifers was offered with keen competition for good dairy sorts close to profit. The following is the range of prices:— Sheep: Fat wethers, 26s 3d, 26s 6d, 26s 8d to 275; light and unfinished, 24s 6d to 255; fat ewes, 13s Id, 13s 7d to 14s 9d; lighter sorts, 10s 8d; maiden .fat ewes, 17s 6d; fat hoggets, 19s 4d to 21s 6d; aged ewes, r.w. S.D. ram, 9s 3d; late ewe lambs, 16s 3d; woolly wether hoggets, 17s 9d to 18s lOd; b.f. hoggets, 17s 2d.' Cattle: Fat P.A. cows, £8 19s; others, £6 10s; forward condition Hereford cows, £5 17s 6d; fat P.A. heifers, £6 15s; Hereford do., £5 2s. A line of good weaner P.A. steers and heifers were offered, the steers realising £5, heifers, £5 Is. Good dairy cows close to profit sold up to £lO ss, later calvers, £7 5s to £9 15s. Springing Jersey cross heifers at drop, £9 10s, £8 15s; later sorts £5 to £7 10s.
