STRONG AUSTRALIAN SCREEN BUFFER AGAINST INVASION. AND SAFEGUARDS FOR SHIPPING. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 120 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The establishment by the Commonwealth of a strong screen of defence and reconnaissance air bases as a butfer against invasion, was revea.ed by the Minister of Air, Mr J- McEwen New stations, he said, included bom land and seaplane bases. While he could not indicate the location or extent of the chain of bases, the Minister said their establishment was an important precautionary measure against the possibility of an unheralded entry of enemy forces into Australian waters. ■A-* 1 ’" craft operating from these bases would make exceedingly hazardous any future operations of enemy raiders seeking to interfere with shipping.
