MR HUGHES DISSENTS

V FOR VICTORY CAMPAIGN CRITICISED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 29. The Minister of the Navy, Mr Hughes, today expressed an objection to the V campaign. He said the present was a time for action and not for slogans. He emphasised that V stood not only for victory, but also for Vichy, which had twice betrayed the democratic cause. It also fitted in with the German slogan for “community.” Mr Hughes added that Australians would be better employed concentrating on the life-and-death struggle ahead instead of wasting time on slogans and jokes..
