There was a fair attendance at the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday when the senior seven-a-side tourney was held. Some excellent games were witnessed more especially those between Carterton A, Gladstone and Featherston. Spells of 10 minutes each were played. Results: — First Round. Carterton A beat Gladstone A, 5-3; Featherston A beat Gladstone B, 8-3; Red. Star. A. beat Carterton B, 16-3; Mastertcn beat Greytown, 3-0. Second Round. Carterton A beat Masterton B, 16-0; Featherston A beat Masterton A, 13-5. Semi-final. Carterton A beat Red Star A, 18-0. Final. The final was between Featherston A and Carterton A. Each team scored three points and a, force down against Carterton was the deciding factor in giving the victory to Featherston. Messrs H. Johns, W. Spooner and B. Hurley were the referees. THIRD GRADE MATCH BUSH BEAT WAIRARAPA. CLOSELY CONTESTED GAME. Bush beat Wairarapa by 9 points to 8 in a third grade Rugby representative fixture played at Featherston on Saturday. Keen, hard football was witnessed by a large attendance of spectators.. Despite the heavy ground, the ball was thrown about in good style. For Bush, tries were scored by H. Gillard, S. Schroeder and S. Beals. Wairarapa’s points came from a try scored by Colin Reid, which he converted himself, and a penalty goal kicked by Catt. FOURTH GRADE WIN FOB COLLEGE. IN OTHER CENTRES Wellington.—Athletic, the leading team in the Wellington Rugby Union’s senior first division championship, staved off their* first serious challenge in the second round of matches, which commenced on Saturday, by defeating Wellington. Two other teams with possible chances, Petone and Hutt, were beaten, and the issue now appears to rest between Athletic and Hutt Army. Heavy overnight rain left the grounds in a sodden state.
