This result was partly due to cutting down expenses owing to war conditions. “Farm Account.—This shows a profit of £95 16s 7d compared with £ll2 2s Gd last year, all stock being taken in at £1 per head. “Membership. — Subscriptions collected amounted to £790 compared with £B4O 18s last year. There are at present 35 members on active service who are not liable for payment of subscriptions, and had these been collected, our collections would have been about the same as last year. The total membership is 968 compared with 1007 a year ago. During the year 30 new members were elected. The losses were by death. 15, by resignation 24, and written off, 30, many of these latter having left the district and cannot be traced. It will be difficult to keep up the membership as the younger people are liable to be called up for active service, and we must now appeal to the older people including those who have dropped out, to come back and assist. Lady members would also be welcome.
“Golf Links—The profit here was £3O 16s, compared with £45 0s 8d last year. Owing to the war conditions there are less young men now playing. “Weight Judging.—Receipts were £34 8s compared with £37 7s 3d and we are grateful to those members of the Savage Club for their good work in taking charge of this. “Maintenance—This cost £B3 14s 4d, compared with £lO3 10s 4d. “Night Show—The receipts were £B3 Ils 6d. Our share of the profits was £4l 15s 9d. the balance of £4l 15s 9d being donated to the Army Queen Committee who arranged the. programme. This profit is included in the show account.
“Luncheon.---This was taken over and run by Miss M. Patrick, who did fill the work, and we paid for all meals distributed by us. This cost the association £62 Os 3d compared with £76 Cs 3d in 1940. Had we had more exhibitors our loss would have been increased accordingly. “Ball Account—This gave a profit of £53 13s lid, and this was handed to the patriotic funds. It was decided not to hold a ball this year. “Balance Sheet.—After writing off £175 12s as depreciation there is a surplus for the year of £657 Os Id. This amount includes an amount of £5OO being a legacy from the Estate of the late David Guild; £450 of this has been placed on fixed deposit for two, years, and the balance of £5O held to purchase a shield to be known as the David Guild Memorial Shield. This is for most points in sheep, cattle and pigs, and it is pleasing to note that it was won for the first time by Mr Wm. Rayner, one of our oldest and largest exhibitors. It is hoped to present a replica of this at the annual meeting. “Mortgage. —This stands at, £1250, the same as last year. “Coloured Lights.—We again desire to thank the Mayor and councillors for their kindness in allowing the coloured lights to remain up until after the Show. “Obituary.—The commitfee records with deep 'regret the deaths of the following members: Mesdames T.
